Leanne Jones (Director)

Gym Manager & Coach

Qualifications: Level 3 Women’s, Level 2 Tumble, Level 2 Trampolining and Level 2 Pre-School

Competed at Regional Level in Artistic Gymnastics and International Level in TeamGym. Started coaching at 16 and has coached Womens, Mens. Pre-School, and Trampolining. Lives in Cardiff with her husband and 2 children. Leanne recently gave up work to concentrate on bringing up her children and developing the club ensuring it has a sound base for the future.

Sue Spry (Director)

Treasurer,Secretary, & Coach

Qualifications: Level 3 Women’s. Level 2 Pre-School and Regional Womens Artistic Judge. Team Gym Club Judge, Men’s club judge, Tumble club judge

Started gymnastics aged 11 after a local coach spotted her doing cartwheels on the school field and invited her to join his club! Moved into coaching at 18. Took a break to have a family but returned to coaching when her daughter started classes at the local leisure centre. Took another break recently but is ready and excited to be involved with this club. Married to husband Andrew, has 2 grown up children, 2 grandsons, 2 cats, and has recently given up her job to devote her energies to the club. In what little spare time she has, Sue attends ballroom and latin dance classes.

Charlotte Akers

Head Coach of Women’s Squad

Qualifications: Level 2 Women’s and Level 1 Pre-School

Charlotte started gymnastics at the age of 7 after attending a taster session in the local leisure centre and became one of Sue’s first squad gymnasts! She trained for the next 8 years as a competitive gymnast and was part of the East Wales squad. She became a coach at 15 coaching both recreational and competitive gymnasts. Charlotte is Head Coach of our Women’s Artistic squad. She also works as a teaching assistant in a local school.

Brooke Powell

Head Coach of Competitive Recreational Section

Qualifications: Level 3 Women’s, Intro to Judging, Preschool

Brooke has been a gymnast since she was very young competing at Challenge Cup level and then continued her career in tumbling. Brooke qualified to the NDP National Tumbling Finals in 2016 where she finished an amazing 2nd in her age group and level! Brooke currently coaches her own group of mini squad gymnasts and also assists with the main artistic squad.

Ellis Silezin

Head Men’s Coach

Qualifications: Level 2 Women’s, Level 1 Men’s, Teamgym

Ellis joined us in 2023 to take over our Men’s section. He runs boys only recreational classes as well as our Boy’s squad groups. Ellis was a gymnast and enjoys taking part in our adult class!

Demi Edwards

Head Coach of Recreational Classes

Qualifications: Level 2 Women’s

Demi joined us in 2019 and is now head of our recreational section and also coaches a girls development group.

Cara Stanford

Head of Mini Squad & Women’s Artistic squad coach

Qualifications: Level 3 Women’s, Women’s Artistic Club Judge.

Cara has been coaching for 14 years and competed as a gymnast at challenge cup level.  She is exceptionally knowledgeable about the sport and passes this down to her gymnasts and our young leaders. Cara has recently passed her Women’s Artistic club judge qualification.

Josh Beard

Head of Tumble

Qualifications: Level 3 Tumbling

Josh is an ex tumbler and takes part in our adult class to keep his hand in! Many of his gymnasts have won medals at welsh and british tumbling competitions

Maria Akers

Receptionist and Welfare Officer

Maria is Charlotte’s mum and has been very involved and supportive of her daughter’s activities over the past years. Maria currently works at a local primary school alongside Charlotte. The club is very grateful to Maria for giving up her spare time to help us.

Sports Leaders & Helpers

​Our sports leaders hold a recognised qualification from Sports Leaders UK. This allows them to take responsibility for a small group of gymnasts independently. From this, many of our sports leaders go on to take their Level 1 coaching qualification in their chosen discipline such as artistic, tumbling or general gymnastics. Many of our sports leaders were either gymnasts themselves or are still training and competing.
